Advanced Settings Deep Dive – Audio

Learn how to manage onboard and driver-specific audio settings from your video sources in your Studio’s Advanced Settings.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

The Audio tab within the Advanced Settings of a video source in Hive gives you access to audio parameters directly associated with that camera or device. These settings are auto-populated based on what is supported by the camera driver and the hardware itself. While this section is typically lightweight, it offers important controls for managing embedded or onboard audio in streamlined workflows.

Navigating to Audio Settings

  1. Open Hive, and confirm your organization and studio selection.

  2. In the Source Tray, click the gear icon (⚙️) on the video source that includes audio.

  3. In the Advanced Settings, select the Audio tab at the top of the window.

Available Settings

Audio Switch (In-Camera Audio Toggle)

This option appears as a simple toggle switch that enables or disables the in-camera microphone or audio feed. When toggled on, Hive will ingest the audio signal embedded in the video stream from the camera.

Use Case: This is useful when using DSLR-style cameras with onboard microphones or shotgun mics mounted directly to the camera body.

Additional Settings Based on Driver

Depending on your camera’s capabilities and the driver loaded in Hive, you may also see other audio options. These could include:

  • Audio format selection

  • Input level controls

  • External input toggles

For more information on what settings are available for your specific camera or encoder, please refer to the hardware documentation provided by the manufacturer, either in the box or through their support resources.

While the Audio tab in Hive’s Advanced Settings may not contain complex routing or effects, it plays a key role in managing in-camera audio and verifying embedded signal paths. Use this section to activate or bypass camera-sourced audio feeds and refer to your device's documentation for any driver-specific features.
