Deleting Sources

Remove your obsolete camera sources from a studio in two clicks while keeping them discoverable for future re‑adds.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Need to retire, replace, or re-organise a feed? With a few clicks, your unneeded source disappears from the UI but remains discoverable on the network and can be re‑added to the same Bridge, or to a different bridge on the same network to help balance the resource consumption, at any time.

Important:

A camera source can be linked to one Bridge at a time. If another bridge from a different studio links the camera, the camera will be unlinked from the first bridge, and then link to the different bridge in the different studio with full functionality.

(i.e. “Two people can ride in one car at the same time, but one person can’t ride in two cars at the same time”)

Step‑by‑Step: Delete a camera source

  1. Right click the source in the source tray, and click the “Delete Source” button. OR:

    1. Open Hive Studio Selection Tray → Choose studio that currently owns the source.

    2. Hover over the camera’s thumbnail until the gear icon (⚙) appears next to its label; click the icon.

    3. The Advanced Settings panel opens. Click the red Delete Source button at the top.

  2. Read the confirmation dialog and click Delete Source again to confirm.

  3. The source has been removed from the Source Tray.

How It Works & What to Expect

  • The Bridge removes the source record from its local database and syncs the change to your account.

  • No commands are sent to the camera itself; Just to the User Interface.

  • The Bridge keeps discovery services running, so the same camera will show up in Add  Camera scans.

Tips, Limitations & Best Practices

  • Only Studio Admins and Producers can delete sources. Ensure you have the correct role.

  • Deleting does not free license slots until cloud sync completes (≈ 30 s).

  • After deletion, revisit any multi‑view layouts to reorganize layouts and check on your saved preset groups.

  • If you plan to re‑add immediately, give the Bridge 10 s to refresh its discovery cache.

  • For permanent retirement, also revoke the camera’s network credentials or use its hardware privacy switch.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does deleting a source power off the camera? No, it only removes the source entry inside Hive; physical devices stay online until you act on them.

  2. Can I undo a deletion? Not directly, you'll need to restart the "Add Video Source" workflow and select the device again.

  3. Will my recordings be lost? Your local recordings will be preserved in your recordings folder.

  4. What if another Bridge already added this camera? The other bridge may take ownership and link the camera.

  5. Why is the Delete Source button greyed out? You lack Studio Admin rights or the camera is currently ingesting a critical live program; wait until it’s idle or stop its output and try again.

Real‑World Use Cases

  • Equipment rotation – Swap demo cameras between studios without cluttering dashboards.

  • Seasonal installations – Remove ski‑lift feeds during summer downtime, then re‑add them next winter.

Deleting a camera source in Hive is quick, reversible, and safe. It cleans up your workspace while leaving the hardware untouched and ready for future use.
