Overview
Adding a video source in Hive is a discovery-based workflow. Once your environment is set up and your Hive Bridge is online, Hive will automatically scan the network and list available sources. You then select a discovered source, configure its video settings, and confirm connection controls if supported.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Complete Required Setup
Before adding a source, you must:
Download and install Hive on the computer you wish to use as the Hive Bridge, connected to the same network as your sources.
Sign in with your Hive organization credentials.
Link an Hive Bridge that is physically connected to the same local network as your video sources.
A Default-Named Studio will be created automatically upon loading the app.
Ensure the Hive Bridge is online.
Note: The Hive app running on your computer is the Bridge. Think of the Bridge as a control node providing processing and discovery services for the Studio.
2. Open the Sources Tab
In Hive, go to the left-hand Sources tab.
Click + Add Source.
3. Choose a Discovered Source
Hive will automatically list available sources detected on the Bridge's local network.
Select one from the list to proceed.
4. Review Source Fields
Once you select a source, you’ll see the following fields:
Source Name – A user-defined label (default is camera ID)
IP Address – The IP address assigned to the source
Protocol – Automatically populated based on device capabilities
Bridge – The Hive Bridge that discovered the source
5. Configure Video Settings & Camera Make/Model
Camera Model Setup
Selecting a model allows Hive to enable features like Auto-Tracking and Magic Movement.
Fields:
Camera Brand – Choose the device manufacturer
Camera Model – Select the exact product model
Camera Nickname – Editable label (defaulted from discovery ID)
Why select a camera model?
It ensures Hive applies the correct driver and unlocks Hive Tools camera-specific settings.
Video Settings
Once the model is selected, configure the source’s video stream:
Stream URL: For RTSP Sources
Bridge: for Multi-Bridge Setup
Bandwidth Mode – High/Low (NDI only)
Frame Sync Mode – On/Off (NDI only)
Frame Rate – Required field (e.g., 30/1 = 30 fps)
Encoder Profile – Controls video compression quality

Control Settings (Optional)
If the camera supports remote control, configure the following:
Connection Type – e.g., VISCA over IP
IP Address – Required for remote communication
Net Protocol – UDP or TCP
Port – Control port used by the device
If connected successfully, you’ll see a Connected status and live control interface.
6. Finish Adding the Source
Click Save and Finish to finalize.
Your new source will appear in the Source Tray with a connection status indicator.
7. Handle Auto-Calibration (If Prompted)
Some cameras require calibration before operating properly. If Hive detects this, you’ll see a prompt to run Auto-Calibration.
Follow the on-screen steps to complete the process.
Calibration ensures accurate tracking and scene alignment; It also activates Magic Movement Tools.

Devices must be on the same local network as the Hive Bridge to appear.
Hive auto-detects protocols and capabilities from discovered hardware.

Use a hardwired Ethernet connection for both Bridge and cameras for best results.
USB and HDMI capture sources must be plugged directly into the Bridge machine.
All video sources must reside on the same network as the Bridge—remote IP input is not supported.
Use Auto-Calibration whenever prompted to ensure optimal setup.

1. Do I need a Bridge to add a source?
Yes — and the source must be on the same network as the Bridge. The Hive app can control any online Bridge in your organization.
2. Can I add multiple sources?
Yes, but the number of supported sources depends on your subscription. See Plans & Pricing for more info. Your source’s stability may also rely on the bridge computer’s hardware specifications.
3. What types of protocols are supported?
RTSP, ONVIF, NDI, and USB/HDMI capture are supported now, however Hive is and will always plan to be Protocol-Agnostic. Protocol is selected based on the source you choose.
4. Why does my source require calibration?
Some devices must be tuned or aligned to function properly. Hive detects this and guides you through Auto-Calibration.
5. Can I preview my source before adding it?
Yes, you preview your video once you select it in the “Select your Source” step (step 1) of adding a new source.
6. What if my source shows "Offline"?
Ensure the device is powered, networked, and visible to the Bridge. Re-scan or re-add if needed.
7. Can I adjust source settings later?
Yes — click the settings icon in the lower-right corner of the source card to access Advanced Settings.
