Plans, Billing, and Cloud Usage in Hive

Every Hive Studio has its own billing plan. Plans are per Studio — each Studio is its own subscription.


Organizations are just a way to group Studios together.

Your plan determines how many video sources you can add, how many collaborators you can invite, and how much cloud bandwidth is included each month. Local mode (controlling cameras on the same network) is always free.


Understanding Cloud Usage

Cloud Control is the feature that lets you manage cameras remotely over the internet. Your plan includes a set amount of cloud bandwidth measured in GB per billing period.

  • Only outbound bandwidth through Hive's cloud counts toward usage.

  • Local network usage is free and unlimited.

  • Usage is tracked per Studio.

  • Included usage resets monthly, even on yearly plans.

Viewing Your Plan and Usage

Settings > Billing shows:

  • Upcoming Invoice card with plan name and next invoice

  • Payment Method card (Stripe portal)

  • Cloud Usage progress bar

  • Invoices history

  • Plan change banner if pending

Auto-refreshes every 30 seconds.


What Happens as You Approach Your Limit

At 75%: Warning notification appears. Cloud access continues normally.

At 100% — Plans WITHOUT Overages (Free): Cloud access disabled, devices switch to local-only mode. Upgrade or wait for next cycle.

At 100% — Plans WITH Overages (Standard, Pro): Cloud continues uninterrupted. Extra usage billed at your overage rate.


Changing Your Plan

Upgrading

  1. Click Upgrade Plan or Change Plan.

  2. Pick a plan with Monthly/Yearly toggle.

  3. Complete checkout via Stripe.

  4. Upgrades take effect immediately.

Downgrading

  1. Click Change Plan → select lower-tier plan.

  2. Confirm via Stripe.

  3. Takes effect at end of billing period (banner shows date).

Cancelling

No separate "cancel" — downgrade to Free.


Managing Your Payment Method

Click Add or Edit on the Payment Method card → opens Stripe portal. Credit card required for paid plans. To remove, downgrade to Free first.


Limits and Restrictions

  • Usage resets monthly, even on yearly plans

  • Local mode always available

  • Overages billed monthly

  • Credit card required for paid plans

  • One plan per Studio

  • Upgrades immediate, downgrades at end of cycle

  • No refunds for unused portions


What Happens If…

…you reach 75% of usage? Warning appears. Cloud continues.

…you hit 100% on Free? Cloud disabled, devices switch to local-only.

…you hit 100% on Standard/Pro? Continues uninterrupted at overage rate.

…you downgrade? Current plan stays until end of period.

…you don't have billing permission? Access denied.

…a billing system error occurs? Fails gracefully — Studio still accessible.

…your payment fails? Subscription becomes inactive, reverts to Free.
